ACBA hosted its inaugural ACBA Girls’ Round on June 29th at The Arc Campbelltown.
With 27 games and over 400 girls playing- there were lots of swishes on and off the court!
The objective was to bring all our girls games to one stadium for the event, to highlight and celebrate all of the amazing females in basketball. These roles form part of the pathway that has been created, fostered and encouraged through ACBA and it’s clubs.
This includes, playing, officiating, coaching, administrative, team managing, medical and support roles.
ACBA is proud of what we have been able to achieve thus far but we know that the road ahead is long and there is still lots more work to do in this space.
The Girls’ Showcase could not have happened without the profound support of Basketball South Australia and their Female Participation Strategy. ACBA acknowledges and supports BSA’s commitment to improvement in Female engagement in basketball.
As part of this partnership, Helen Rosenberg was on hand to help mentor and support our young female officials. Her impact alone from this one event was amazing.
A South Australian Basketball Icon in Jo Hill was also in attendance. Jo has been an inspiring role model for female players for decades and is continuing her dedication in supporting young girls on the basketball pathway. Jo also helped select several of our award winners on the day.
A heartfelt thanks must also go out to Cindy Halkias for her enthusiasm, support and shared vision for Female Participation. We look forward to continued work in the future with Cindy for future showcase rounds.
We would also like to thank Norwood’s NBL1 Women who came and supported the day also. Their interaction with young players is a key component in providing our junior athletes with positive role models to look up to.
On the day we also had 25 referees and court supervisors who were all female. This again enhanced the visual effect of the various pathways connected to basketball. We thank them for their efforts for the showcase also.
Lastly, a huge shout out to all the ACBA clubs who supported not only this special event but provide opportunities for girls to play and participate each and every week. Your time, efforts and dedication do not go unnoticed. Collectively we create and foster great environments for our female athletes now and into the future.
